Wax hardener, commonly known as stearic acid, is a key additive in candle making used to increase the wax's hardness and durability, as well as enhance other properties such as shine and burn quality.

Benefits and Uses of Wax Hardener

Increased Hardness and Durability: The primary benefit is that it makes the wax harder, helping candles retain their shape and resist warping, especially at warm temperatures. This is particularly important for pillar candles.

Improved Burn Quality: Stearic acid contributes to a more even and slower burn, reducing dripping and extending the candle's lifespan.

Enhanced Color and Shine: It helps give candles a smooth, glossy finish and makes added colors more vibrant and visible.

Easier Unmolding: As it cools, stearic acid causes slight shrinkage of the wax, making it easier to remove the candle from the mold without it breaking or cracking. Enhanced Fragrance Fixation: Stearic acid helps bind essential oils better within the wax, enhancing scent diffusion and making it last longer.

How to Use: Stearic acid is typically used in specific proportions mixed with various base waxes, such as paraffin or soy wax.

Recommended Ratio: For best results, it is recommended to add between 2% and 10% stearic acid to the total weight of the wax.

Addition Method: The base wax must be completely melted, then stearic acid flakes or powder are added and the mixture is stirred thoroughly until completely dissolved and homogeneous before adding colors or essential oils.
