Gel wax is a type of clear, jelly-like wax composed primarily of mineral oils and polymer resin. It is mainly used in decorative candle making due to its unique transparency.
Properties and Uses of Gel Wax
Gel wax differs from traditional candles (such as paraffin or soy wax) in several key aspects, making it a popular choice for artistic and creative candles.
High Transparency: The most notable feature of gel wax is its glass-like transparency, allowing various decorative elements such as shells, dried flowers, or glitter to be clearly visible within the candle.
Longer Burn Time: Gel wax burns more slowly than traditional wax, resulting in candles that last longer.
Ideal for Glass Containers: Due to its consistency, gel wax is used exclusively in glass containers and should not be poured into silicone or other freestanding molds.
Scents: Gel wax retains fragrance well, but ensure that the essential oils used are soluble in it.
Melting Temperature: The melting point of gel wax is between 75°C and 85°C, but during preparation, it may need to be heated to higher temperatures (up to 125°C) to prevent bubbles and ensure smooth pouring.
